# Print Labels & QR Codes

## Labeling Samples

The IGSN can be used as a label for samples that allows for unambiguous naming and persistent access to information about the sample. [MySESAR](https://app.geosamples.org/index.php) provides label printing services that contain the sample name, IGSN, QR code linking to the sample metadata profile page and customizable additional metadata fields.

## Printing Labels

### **Label Template**

The labels are sized for a 10 row, 2 column, portrait layout of 4″x1″ labels.

* More information about [label layout OL75](https://www.onlinelabels.com/OL75.htm) and [Laser Cyro-Tags](https://www.labtag.com/shop/category/labels/cryogenic-labels/laser-cryogenic-labels/?srsltid=AfmBOoqX8yEjI3hHAz3TWBA8jOyICWR5bgIV-tGaN6qu_rfzJqk1yno4).

### **How to Print IGSN Labels**

1. In MySESAR, select the labels you want to print by clicking the box next to the sample under ‘Your Sample’ or ‘Team Sample’. To select all samples for print, click the box next to the IGSN header.
2. Click the 'Print Label' button on the top.
3. On the popup that displays the labels, you can change up to three fields to print on your label. We recommend having the first field as ‘Sample Name’. The IGSN is not customizable. You can also change the ‘Label Sheet Layout’ to OL75/Avery 5161 or Laser Cryo-Tags.
4. Click the 'Save to PDF File' button to download. For a large number of samples, the PDFs will automatically be divided and downloaded as multiple files.
5. When printing the saved .pdf, set the paper type as A4, left and right margin should be 1 inch. (We suggest printing a test page first before printing on the labels.)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.geosamples.org/for-researchers/manage-samples/print-labels-and-qr-codes.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
