# Sample Groups

Sample groups are used for organizing registered samples based on your needs. This is not the same as Teams, rather it is a workspace for you. This is the same functionality as the groups feature in SESAR 1.0.

## Creating a Sample Group

1. On the left hand panel, navigate to ‘Sample Groups’ under ‘Samples’.
2. Click ‘New Sample Group’ to add a new group.
3. Add the ‘Name’\* and ‘Description’, select ‘Group Type’\*, and set the privacy of your group to either ‘Private’ or ‘Public’.\
 \* Name and Group Type are required to create a group.
4. Click ‘Create’.
5. You can always update the group by navigating to the group page and clicking ‘Settings’.
6. Navigate back to ‘Your Samples’ or ‘Team Samples’ and choose the samples you wish to add to the group.
7. After selection, click ‘Add Sample to Group’ and choose the group you wish to add the samples to.
8. Navigate to ‘Sample Groups’ and select the group you added your samples to. They should now be listed.
9. You can also remove samples by clicking on the sample(s) and ‘Remove Samples from Group’.
10. You can also share your group link with others by clicking the link to copy and sending that link. If your group is private, the link will not display any samples.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.geosamples.org/for-researchers/register-samples/sample-groups.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
