## Field crosswalk (old → new)

This is the sample-field mapping used when SESAR 1.0 records were loaded into the current registry. Vocabulary **list** names (sample type → object type, and so on) are on [Renamed vocabularies](/metadata-schema/migration-from-the-legacy-schema/renamed-vocabularies.md).

Unlisted fields kept the same name: **IGSN**, **sample name**, **latitude** and **longitude** (including end coordinates), **country**, **province / state**, **county**, **city**, **locality**, **location description**, **size**, **purpose**, **elevation**, **depth in core**, **vertical datum**, **cruise / field program**, **publish date**, and archive contacts.

### Combined text

**Sample description** is the old **description**, **classification comment**, and **sample comment**, joined with `;`. If the age unit could not be mapped, `Legacy age unit: …` was added.

### Not carried onto the sample

These legacy sample columns were not written as sample fields:

Internal registrant and owner IDs were copied. They are not fields you edit on the sample form.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.geosamples.org/metadata-schema/migration-from-the-legacy-schema/field-crosswalk-old-greater-than-new.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
